Google is planning to bring Android games to Windows OS next year through a new special version of the Google Play Games app. The app will be built exclusively for Windows and will allow games from the Google Play ecosystem to run on Windows laptops, tablets, and PCs.
According to reports, the app will allow seamless switching between phones, tablets, Chromebooks, and Windows PCs, allowing users to play their favorite titles from Android on more devices than ever before. Games can be played and resumed on cross devices after playing on one and the other.
Google built the app entirely on its own, without any partnership with Microsoft, BlueStacks, or any other emulator. It’s unknown which technology is being used to emulate Android apps on Windows. All we know is that games will be running locally and not streaming from the cloud as it happens on android devices.
The Google Play Games app will also be distributed by Google and support Windows 10 and up, with no special integration with the OS. Microsoft’s Android apps virtualization only supports Windows 11, older Windows 10 versions will also be able to run games from Android. Google does not seem to be interested in running standard Android apps on Windows though.
Google promised a release sometime in 2022.
