Google’s Pixel 5 Sold Out!

After only a few days we saw the new Google Pixel 5 becoming a smash hit after the phone went “out of stock” both at the Google Store and Amazon. We do not know the exact number but knowing Google we assume that’s not a bad number to hit.

If you get into the Google Store and try to checkout, you get the option to “Choose your carrier” page. In the last hours, the unlocked version of the Pixel 5 switched to “out of stock”, both Just Black and Sorta Sage. In fact, you can’t even click on the big button for unlocked models any longer.

When you choose Google Fi as your carrier, the phones are still available, but they’ll be shipping only in January. At the Amazon store, neither color is shipping any time soon. Maybe the Black Pixel 5s might ship at the end of the month, but the Sorta Green units are showing an “in stock” date of January 21, a full month from now.

At Best Buy you are still able to get it within a day or so, so we can imagine it is not completely gone from everywhere.

Should we be surprised that Google got the Pixel 5 units to show as “out of stock” at a couple of online shops? Yes, we should. I really like this phone but it’s not the phone for everyone. Some reviews say it’s overpriced, there are some concerns about how well it was made, and you’ll find better values out there. This phone is not made for the superpower user watching 4K content at 120Hz or gamers. This phone was built for those of us who want a bit of simplicity.

Google should take any sign of success it can with Pixel phones. Recent Pixel history has not had many positive moments. It could be a real game-changer.
