On June 29th, 2007 sales of the original iPhone started. The smartphone was lacking many of the functions other competitors had at that time, i.e.: video shooting, the ability to install a 3rd party applications, support for MMS and 3G cellular networks. However, this did not stop the device from winning the preference of users from all over the world and completely change the rules of the game in the smartphone market. Time magazine named the main invention of 2007.

The original iPhone was unveiled in January 2007. The legend says, at the time of Steve Jobs presentation, there were only a few semi-working prototypes that performed certain tasks only in a determined order, and a deviation from this could cause the device to crash.

The sales of the smartphone only begun six months after its presentation. By this time, Apple experts managed to fix all the critical problems of the first iPhone. The appearance of the device on the shelves caused a huge reaction never experienced before by the launch of a single smartphone or mobile phone. People took queues in front of Apple stores for several days, just to be able to be the first to buy the new product. They were not intimidated by the sky-high cost of the device at that time, the tag price was USD 499 for the basic version, which only had a 4 GB drive. In the first twenty-four hours, Apple sold 250 thousand iPhones; and the company sold the first million copies after 74 days. Then Steve Jobs noted that it took the company almost two years to sell the same quantity of iPods.

The original iPhone changed the world, its body was an aluminum case with a chrome bezel surrounding the bezel. Below the screen was the only Home button; that has survived to this day in the iPhone SE and affordable iPads. The processor used was the Samsung S3C6400 chipset, the clock was limited to 416 MHz. The amount of RAM in the EDRAM standard was 128 MB. The storage capacity was 4, 8, or completely unimaginable for a smartphone of that time 16 GB. The 3.5-inch TFT display with a resolution of 320 × 480 pixels had no air gap; which made a lasting impression on those who took an iPhone in their hands for the first time. Of course, one of the main features was the multi-touch capacitive sensor. The smartphone’s camera had only a resolution of 2 megapixels with no video shooting.

In 2008, the original iPhone was replaced by the iPhone 3G; which received support for third-generation cellular networks, a simpler plastic case, and a less beautiful screen with an air gap. It was it who became the first Apple smartphone officially presented on several markets. Apple has sold over a billion iPhones to date, which is the best example of the brand’s success.
