It is well known that nothing good lasts forever, these applicable for system updates and smartphones too. Every year the lapse for a flagship device to go obsolete is getting shorter due to the high rate of innovation in the mobile industry. Usually, Samsung releases two major Android updates for its devices per year, but in a recent announcement the company said will now release three major updates. However, the company is already done with many of its flagships and the Samsung Galaxy S8 series will be one of them

In March 2017, Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ with Android 7 (Nougat). After that, they’ve got the Android 8 and 9 updates. With this, they have two major updates. Samsung did not release Android 10 for these devices, at least not officially.

Both devices have been around for four years meaning that they’ve exceeded their limit for any sort of update. Last year, Samsung announced that the Galaxy S8 series will no longer get monthly updates. They were moved to the list of devices also for the quarterly updates, then they finally stopped the maintenance plan that had lasted for 4 years.

The 2017 Galaxy S8 series comes with a 10nm process Snapdragon 835 and Exynos 8895 processors. This series expunged the iconic Home button and there are two versions, 5.8 inches, and 6.2 inches.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 series will be the replacement for the quarterly cycle update list in April 2022.
