What started as a futuristic project it’s now a reality, foldable smartphones have arrived and are not going anywhere. They are selling very slowly and in the meantime will be in demand only by those who are ready to pay more for expensive devices, regardless of the existing problems with reliability and durability. Samsung is working on many different projects with flexible displays and is ready to set the pace with its research.

This week, as part of its participation in the Society for Information Display’s annual symposium and tradeshow 2021, Samsung will show new folding devices. The device it’s expected to be a foldable 17-inch tablet and a flexible smartphone with a 7.2-inch screen that can be folded in two places. The structure resembles the letter Z or S. We guess that the lower half of the screen will perform as a touch keyboard.

Among the new products shown by Samsung we expect to see also a Slidable Display or a horizontally stretching screen, which in its usual state is a smartphone, when needed to get a larger display for viewing videos or games, the display can be stretched.

From “The United States Patent and Trademark Office”, Samsung got a patent for a Display device.
An Under Panel Camera technology was promised too. It has been rumored that Samsung optical engineers achieved a good level of light transmission at the same location of the selfie module.
When unfolded, the device looks like a regular cell phone where users will be able to interact with the large screen as in any other mobile phone.
As can observe from the patent illustrations, the design provides two-fold lines; one in the upper and the second at lower regions of the device. Thus, the upper or lower section can be closed and the image is displayed in the rest of the display.
When necessary both sections can be folded at once where then the screen will be completely hidden.
We must remember that the device shown in these images only exists in the patent documents. When the Korean Giant will bring the idea to life is still unknown.
