WhatsApp to stop the spread of fake news

According to reports, is testing a limit on the number of persons to whom a message can be shared. There is now no restriction, however, the latest version of WhatsApp beta introduces one for the first time.

While disinformation is a huge subject right now, especially with all of the bogus news flowing regarding COVID-19 or the crisis in Ukraine, WhatsApp has just announced a new upgrade that may help reduce the spread of misinformation. Previously, the Meta-owned messaging service had made efforts to prevent message forwarding, but they had only been implemented in Brazil.

Beginning with WhatsApp for Beta 2.22.7.2, WhatsApp users all around the world should have a considerably more difficult time sharing messages that have previously been shared.

According to WhatsApp news independent website, WABetaInfo, after a message has been designated as forwarded, it can no longer be forwarded to more than one group at a time. If users try to circumvent this limitation, the software shows the notification “Forwarded messages can only be delivered to one group chat.”

WHATSAPP WISHES TO STOP THE SPREAD OF FAKE NEWS, AND THIS IS HOW

Thanks to this new measure, people broadcasting information to several groups will now be forced to select the conversations one by one. WhatsApp thus hopes to discourage the authors of fake news by making it more difficult for them. It's good to see Meta taking action against misinformation after a bug in Facebook allowed articles with dangerous content to be highlighted in its news tab.

Fake news is such a scourge in some countries. For now, this new limitation is only available in the app's beta; so we don't know when it will roll out to all users.

The WhatsApp team has announced the release of new capabilities aimed at customers who frequently send audio conversations.

These advances were previously tested in experimental versions of WhatsApp, and they are now accessible in stable versions of the app. As the creator promised, more features will be introduced gradually over the next few weeks.

In total, there are six voice message advancements in WhatsApp:

  • Playback outside of the conversation – Message playback will not be stopped if you navigate to another messenger screen.
  • A message can be recorded, then paused, and restarted when ready.
  • You may also pause the sound while playing and restart from the same point when you return to the conversation.
  • When you play a song, a sound wave appears on the screen.
  • Before submitting, listen to the recording for the first time.
  • Regular and forwarded messages can be played back at 1.5x or 2x speed.
