YouTube available as a Progressive Web App

Many Google services have been transformed into Progressive Web Apps lately. Following Music and TV, the main YouTube site can be installed today as a PWA for access.

In Chrome, it’s revealed in a plus-in-a-circle icon that appears directly in the Omnibox. Users are offered to  “Install app.” Once installed we get a  large red play logo in the app launcher to open YouTube directly in a window missing the address bar and other UI elements for a dedicated experience.

This ability to install the main Site comes after the arrival of YouTube Music and YouTube TV as PWA’s last year, in that way completing the whole family of products

Other Google sites that received the PWA status are:

  • Google Stadia (on iOS) with a dedicated web app.
  • Duo web group calls with up to 32 people.
  • Chat rolling out.
  • Drive.
  • Google Photos.
