A recent interview by Input Magazine to CEO Pete Lau announced that the 1+ smartwatch might be finally happening.

Lau said, that they are working on the watch, but didn’t give any real specifics or details about what it will offer and when the release date will be. He said they’ve been discussing a possible smartwatch for years, but every time we think it’s going to launch, they pull back. Recently, the OnePlus account on Twitter was teasing some potential watch news, so things might start heating up.

In the interview, Lau talked mostly about Wear OS and even commented on ’s way regarding the state of the platform at the present.

Wear OS definitely has room to improve. What we’re trying to do is work with to try to improve the connectivity between the Wear OS ecosystem, TV, and Android smartphones to create this ability for better device interoperability across the ecosystems. This has been something looked at very positively from ’s side as well, so this is the direction that we’re trying to develop, but we don’t have more than we can share on that right now.

Wear OS started in 2014, most of us remember it as Wear. We wouldn’t think that after six years we will be talking about ways how to improve it, everyone except Google seems they are trying to make it work. Wearables are not an easy space to get into where you have a market dominated by the likes of Fitbit and Apple. Still, there is room for a really good Wear OS watch, so let’s hope that the wait for the OnePlus’ wearable was worth it.
